World Cup participants - Peserta Piala Dunia sekarang

Since the participants of the World Cup now were drawn from allotment system, as the consequence the participants grow higher (32 countries). I have the feeling that the tension (and perhaps the quality) of world cup goes lower.
I think (not offensing or humiliating) Honduras, New Zealand and some Africans are a little bit "lower class" than the others who failed at qualification stages such as Russia, Czech, Belgium, Sweden, etc.
Japan and Koreans are also in my opinion "not too strong", even up to now we still hope they will survive. South Korea got romantic memory of 2002, but at that time they were one of the hosts. At the 1st round they beat Greek (ex-Euro champion but unbelievably appear so weak this time. They won yesterday but still unpromising) but yesterday were crushed 1-4 by Argentine.

Some years ago world cup triumphant participants were 16. Schedules arranged in knock out system since round 1. It was so exciting since the beginning. A real world soccer fiesta.

Now it can not be done as in the past. Perhaps because of tolerance to give chances to the other countries to participate, additional allotments given. Now participants higher and of course not easy to apply knock out sistem since round 1.

The arranger of world cup must rethink about this. Perhaps considerable if participants of "second class" countries be put into such a preliminary rounds to get 4 qualifiers. Say, 4 out of 16. But the "first class" countries also will have a preliminary rounds to get 12 countries (maybe 12 from 16, the system can be arranged). Then the last 16 candidates drawn in free knock outs.

Hopefully it will be more exciting and the quality of football gets better.



Karena negara-negara peserta piala dunia sekarang diatur dengan sistem jatah dan sebagai konsekuensinya jumlah peserta menjadi lebih banyak (32 negara), maka saya merasa bahwa ada penurunan ketegangan (mungkin pula kualitas) dari piala dunia. Saya pikir Honduras, Selandia Baru dan beberapa negara Afrika agak lebih rendah kualitasnya dibandingkan beberapa yang gagal kualifikasi, seperti Rusia, Ceko, Belgia, Swedia, dan beberapa negara kuat lain.
Jepang, Korsel dan Korut juga sebenarnya tidak terlalu kuat, tapi sampai hari ini masih agak kelihatan kuat. Korsel memang punya nostalgia tahun 2002, tapi itu karena mereka termasuk tuan rumah (sempat menang 2-0 dari Yunani, eks juara Eropa yang sangat mengherankan bermain jauh di bawah form, tapi tadi malam Korsel dihajar Argentina 4-1).

Dulu jumlah peserta terfokus pada 16 besar. Sistem gugur (KO) sejak ronde pertama. Betul-betul seru dan menegangkan sejak awal. Benar-benar pesta sepak bola dunia.

Sekarang tidak lagi demikian. Mungkin karena tidak sampai hati maka diberikan jatah tambahan kepada beberapa negara yang dianggap masih di bawah kualitas agar bisa berpartisipasi. Kalau langsung sistem gugur tentu tidak mudah mengaturnya.

Penyelenggara piala dunia perlu memikirkan formulasi negara peserta agar tension piala dunia betul-betul seru.
Mungkin bisa dipikirkan untuk membuat preliminary rounds dulu untuk sejumlah peserta "kelas bawah" untuk menghasilkan 4 kandidat. Katakanlah mendapatkan 4 dari 16 negara. Lalu beberapa negara "kelas satu"pun bertarung untuk menghasilkan 12 kandidat. Mungkin 12 dari 16. Sistemnya bisa diatur.
Lalu yang 16 ini diundi untuk sistem gugur sampai ke final.

Semoga piala dunia menjadi lebih seru dan mutu sepakbola dunia meningkat.
